What is fried rice?

Fried rice is a traditional dish made with rice, vegetables, protein, and more. Many ingredients are used to make it delicious.

How to make fried rice?

First, gather the cooled rice, then prepare the other ingredients to mix in step by step. Now, let’s go through the process of making fried rice.

Prep time: 5min        cook time:10min

Total time: 15min

Ingredients:

  • Cooked Rice (preferably cold, day-old rice)
  • 3 tablespoons Vegetable Oil or Butter (for stir-frying)
  • 3-4 tablespoons Soy Sauce (for seasoning)
  • 2 Eggs (scrambled in the rice)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • Vegetables (like carrots, peas, bell peppers, or corn)
  • 3 Green Onions (chopped for garnish)
  • Salt and Pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients:
    • Have all your ingredients chopped, prepped, and within reach. This dish cooks quickly, so everything needs to be ready.
  2. Heat Oil:
    • Heat a large wok or frying pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  3. Cook Eggs (if using):
    • Pour the beaten eggs into the pan, scramble lightly, and cook until set. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. Sauté Aromatics:
    • Add the remaining oil to the pan. Sauté the garlic and onions until fragrant and slightly softened (about 1-2 minutes).
  5. Cook Vegetables and Protein:
    • Add the mixed vegetables and cook for 2-3 minutes. If using protein, add it at this stage and stir until heated through.
  6. Add Rice:
    • Break up the rice with your hands or a fork to prevent clumps. Add it to the pan, stirring constantly to mix it with the veggies and protein.
  7. Season:
    • Drizzle the soy sauce and oyster sauce (if using) evenly over the rice. Stir well to coat everything.
  8. Add Scrambled Eggs:
    • Stir in the cooked scrambled eggs, breaking them into smaller pieces as you mix.
  9. Finish:
    • Add a splash of sesame oil for extra flavor, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir thoroughly.
  10. Garnish and Serve:
    • Sprinkle chopped green onions on top, and serve hot.
