London is known for its high-quality bakeries. They offer unique and creative bread made with locally sourced organic ingredients. The city is also famous for its high-quality bread-baking workshops.
By the way, the specific varieties of bread offered at different bakeries highlight the diverse cultures within the city of London. Now, let’s take a look at some of these bread-focused restaurants.

1.Fortitude Bakehouse:
There are several vegetarian options, such as the strawberry Danish, beignet, and omelette batbout. I haven’t seen any vegan options, though they might offer some on special occasions. Overall, there are many vegetarian choices, but no consistent vegan options from what I observed. However, there was one vegan option when I visited about two weeks ago on a Saturday morning.
The wait time varies depending on when you visit. If there are fewer than 25 people in line, you should receive your food in 20 minutes or less. With even fewer people, you might get your order within 10 minutes. It’s best to go early in the morning if possible.
As for London, this is one of the best places I’ve been to. I was fortunate to visit several times during the summer and managed to try almost everything they had at the time. Both the sweet and savory items, along with the espresso, were excellent. I was lucky to avoid long lines until my last visit, and even then, the wait passed quickly. Quick tip: the simpler the pastry, the better it tastes.
2.Fabrique Bakery (Covent Garden)
I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the book that tells the story of Fabrique. Plus, the sight of people enjoying their breakfast at the tables and the overall décor give this place a wonderful vibe. I had noticed it long ago when I lived nearby, and even from the outside, it looked impressive. I can now confirm that it truly is!
The bread and pastries taste much better when warmed up, ideally by reheating them for a few minutes before eating.
I took my order home and did just that, which made a significant difference, especially for the sourdough with cheese and olives. The cheese doesn’t melt properly unless the loaf or slices are reheated before being eaten.
3.Royal Artisan Bakery
If you’re near St. James’s tube station, make sure to find this place. They offer a lovely array of treats and drinks, perfect for breakfast or to satisfy all-day hunger pangs. My favorite was the sausage roll pastry, but there are so many options to choose from, including dessert items. The pizza slices are generously sized, and the service is friendly.
Passing by this bakery, I hadn’t noticed before that alongside the eye-catching desserts, they also offer less sugary options for a delightful treat:
These aren’t foods for those looking to lose weight, but they are packed with healthy ingredients. A standout is the Mediterranean Pizza Focaccia, topped with olive oil, courgettes, peppers, and mushrooms.
However, my favorite was the canelé, a small French pastry that isn’t overly sweet. It’s flavored with rum and vanilla, featuring a tender custard center and a caramelized crust—similar to madeleines in taste, but even better.
I also tried the red velvet and thick chocolate cookie with a latte. After reheating them at home for 2 minutes, they were deliciously good. They don’t taste overly buttery, even if they might have plenty of it.
4.Miel Bakery
This was the best bakery we’ve visited in London so far. At first, we weren’t impressed, as the pastries didn’t look particularly extraordinary. But they turned out to be just perfect!
It would be helpful if they added labels to identify what each pastry is. There was a queue, and many items were running out. The seating area inside is also quite small.
Phenomenal! We’re staying on Warren Street, and I’ve walked past this bakery at least 10 times. I was so glad we finally stopped. I had a vanilla latte, which was one of the top two coffees I’ve had in London. The ham and cheese croissant was incredible, and we also tried the quiche. It was quite good, although I prefer my quiche warm rather than cold. They offered to heat it, but mentioned that heating it too much might cause it to lose its shape.
This is a wonderful place, and I highly recommend stopping by.
This bakery is outstanding. The chocolate pistachio escargot was fantastic, and the daily special—a fig and walnut square (see picture)—was absolutely phenomenal. The latte was also good. The mushroom and garlic Emmental pastry (escargot?) was excellent as well. Fitzrovia, the neighborhood it’s in, is a great area to walk through. While the staff were fine, they could be a bit friendlier, as I didn’t get a particularly welcoming or service-oriented vibe from them.
5.Granier Bakery Cafe
I visit this bakery/café almost every morning because the coffee is delicious. Other customers have mentioned that it’s the best coffee in London, and I’d say it’s definitely among the top.
They also offer a great selection of tasty pastries and sandwiches, all freshly made on the premises. I especially recommend the Nutella and strawberry croissant, as well as the pistachio croissant.
The staff, including the owner, are friendly and welcoming. They do an excellent job of keeping the place clean and tidy while serving customers efficiently.
I highly recommend this spot if you’re in the area and looking for breakfast or a quick snack. Keep in mind, though, that it is a bakery, so they don’t serve items like porridge or yogurt.
During my visit, I had the custard and berry croissant along with a blue blast smoothie—both were delicious. They have plenty of options for flaky pastries and smoothies. While seating is limited, it wasn’t too crowded when I was there.
They offer an impressive variety of fresh and delicious croissants and sandwiches. The coffee is absolutely perfect—rich, smooth, and just what you need to start your day. The staff is incredibly polite and friendly, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend this spot for anyone seeking a great bite and coffee!
6.The Dusty Knuckle Bakery
The service can be slow due to the number of people, but the atmosphere and food are still worth it. Make sure to arrive early, as they were almost sold out by the time we got there. We only tried the cheese toastie, but it was excellent, with the onion chutney adding the perfect touch. We will definitely return to try more of their pastries. The atmosphere is lively, with lots of people, which added to the experience.
The bread is great, although it feels a bit overpriced. The location is fairly central, near Dalston Junction, but set back slightly from the High Street. We bought two baguettes, which were delicious. We were also pleased that our dog was allowed to join us in the queue for the bread counter.
I recently came here for a late breakfast and found the coffee to be excellent. I had the egg, chili, and cheese sandwich with bacon, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The focaccia was light and airy, making it easy to bite through. My father tried the feta honey swirl, which had a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. Overall, it was a lovely atmosphere, and we will be back to try more of their offerings.
7.Dunn’s Bakery
Dunn’s Bakery is a reliable spot for a quick bite or a fresh loaf of bread when you’re in the neighborhood. While it may not be the most extraordinary bakery in town, they consistently deliver good quality. We’ve never had a bad experience, so it’s always a safe bet for a satisfying treat.
Their cakes are nice, and their staff is extremely friendly.
I remember when I was pregnant with my second child and craving tiramisu. Some friends advised me to check if the eggs were fully cooked, so I called Dunn’s. I was impressed by their excellent customer service. The sales assistant who initially answered didn’t have the information, but the chef later called me back to explain everything in detail.
I have been a loyal customer for many years since moving near Crouch End, and so has my family.
8.Bageriet
If the charming location isn’t enough, the store is beautifully set up, and the staff are incredibly warm and friendly! I had to try the world-famous cinnamon bun, which did not disappoint. We’ll definitely be back!
This cute little bakery is tucked away in a small alley off Long Acre.
The cinnamon buns were good (and the reason I visited), but not the best I’ve had in London. However, the Wienerbrot with chocolate and custard was utterly amazing—one of the tastiest pastries I’ve had in a long time.
The coffee options are somewhat limited, as they only serve full-fat milk and offer oat milk as the non-dairy option. It’s not a big deal, but it was a surprise in London.
Overall, an excellent bakery, and I was blown away by the flavors. I’ll return to try more of their selection.
Highly recommended (a must-try)!
This is really a wonderful recipe. Try this recipe once and you will want to eat it again and again.
